Beta

Test THE HELM

THE HELM is in active Beta on iOS and Android. You’re early — the point is to find what’s not right yet.

What THE HELM is

A personal and social accountability app. You run your day like a watch: set a short list of Orders, keep your word, and back a small Crew doing the same. Progress earns XP and moves you up the Career Ranks, with seven-day Voyages for direction and a Cabin to make your own. It’s a native app for iOS and Android — there’s no web version.

Where to get the Beta

The Beta runs through Apple’s TestFlight on iOS and Google Play testing on Android. Use the link for your platform:

Public Beta links aren’t posted here yet. If you were invited directly, use the link from that invitation — it also carries the feedback channel for your build.

What it’s like right now

  • It’s under active development. Expect rough edges and change.
  • Builds run against an isolated Beta backend, kept separate from any production data.
  • Some areas described on this site are still being built — most notably server-side account deletion.
  • Your data handling follows the Privacy Policy. No analytics or crash SDKs are in the app.

What to put through its paces

  • The daily loop

    Set Today’s Orders, log them through the day, and check the reward acknowledgement appears once. Try binary and measurable Orders, and push past a target into Overtime.

  • Across days

    Let a Personal Daily Duty roll over to the next day. Confirm titles, targets and rewards stay stable, and that a restart or reconnect never re-rolls or double-pays anything.

  • Crew

    Create a Ship, invite a second tester, and watch noon lock in Today’s Watch. Try encouragement, banter, a Crew Challenge, and a Clean Sweep. Leave and rejoin.

  • Career & Voyages

    Earn XP, cross a rank threshold, and confirm the highest rank sticks even if XP later drops. Run a full seven-day Voyage cycle and its Standing Orders.

  • Cabin

    Buy a fitting, adopt Polly or Wolly, feed on the cooldown, and watch Bond build. Confirm giving up a companion forfeits its Bond as described.

  • The rough edges

    Offline actions, force-close and restart, background and resume, small screens, large text, and anything that looks visually off or reads wrong.

How to give feedback that helps

Good reports are specific. Where you can, include:

  • what you did, step by step;
  • what you expected to happen;
  • what actually happened;
  • your device model, OS version, and the app version and build number;
  • your timezone and the time it happened;
  • a screenshot or screen recording if it’s visual.

For anything about XP, ranks or Doubloons, note what you’d just done — progression is server-authoritative, so a timestamp usually lets us reconstruct it.

Send reports through the feedback channel in your tester invite. A general support contact will be published on the Support page once it’s configured.

Where it’s heading

THE HELM stays one app. Future directions being explored — such as different kinds of Ships for crews and families — are not part of the current Beta and aren’t available. What you’re testing now is the core: Watch, Crew, Career, Voyages and Cabin.
